As all is vibration, all is effected by the physics of vibration and movement and energy. What appears to be solid to our “dumbed down” senses is in reality, constant oscillation. It is the frequency of the oscillation that manifests as form in the physical realm. The constant movement of atoms and molecules  creates a specific frequency of vibration. Change is a constant, justified by the oscillations of all matter and energy. Things move from form to form, shape to shape, event to event, place to place…constantly. There is a pattern to the movements. It shows up as a repeating of pulses or movements. It expresses a rhythm. The speed at which it pulses is the tempo.

Humans are subject to these laws. Our patterns, our systems, our organs, our cells, our thoughts, our actions, have a rhythm. This rhythm identifies us as a unique frequency. Any alteration to the rhythm of our inner shows up as us being less than balanced…a lower vibration than who we truly are by design. When we are not in our own rhythm we suffer and manifest conditions to bring our awareness back to focus and cleanse the lower vibrations.

When we can’t dance, we are likely, in compromise, holding on to increasing amounts of unprocessed, unexpressed, uncleared experience. Our system and cells are leaning towards chaos. Our increasing sedentary culture has cost us dearly, not only by obesity but also in our lack of movement and activity. This is essentially giving up to the beautiful flow of life. Our rhythm, our pulse, has been lost…temporarily. To heal we must get our mojo back. This pulsating life force is masked by the thoughts, beliefs, patterns, and actions that we have collectively and individually bought into. Now is the time to rediscover our rhythmic self.

We learn to dance by dancing. The specific steps are just forms of conforming. We need to find our improvisational pulse. The steps will reveal themselves when we find our beat. Start moving and stumble and fumble and fall…and keep going. Work through the doubts and hesitations and unwillingness to reawaken the dancer. The pulse means we repeat movement in time, or in the same distance between each beat. We drop into our groove when we surrender the thinking and the history of believing we can’t and repeatedly sit out.

It is to this cultural history of giving up that the music healer crafts his compositions. Conditions are there because the flow, the dance, has been interrupted. Our creations must take off the shackles and put the boogie back in the cells, meaning we invite them to unify and align. Two cells from the heart when separated, beat at their own pulse. When brought into closer proximity they mysteriously start beating simultaneously at the exact rhythm. This is called entrainment. We must use this to give the listener back the keys to their freedom.

Rhythm carries the feeling into the will center. It pulls our ability to decide and take action downwards toward the earth to access the power and support of that foundational energy and intention. To connect with the Earth is to feel the pulsing vibration and move…dance. Native dance is based on natural rhythms, most often the heartbeat, the breath, and the waves of the brain. Conscious utilization brings about entrainment and a relocation to center, where the natural, designed body wisdom is allowed to function in the flow.

Often, the rhythm we incarnated with is lost through the moments of living. Traumas impact the cells and interfere with the human interpretation of the infinite Divine Pulse. We learn to protect and keep safe and survive and forget to dance, because it brings up happiness and freedom and celebration…and these are the last things we are willing to feel and engage from the wounded state. Fears of annihilation…

Rhythm lives in the connection between breath and heartbeat. Interruption of either through repression  shuts down the will so little action, movement, takes place. Music is the primary vehicle that realigns the breath and pulse, freeing the limbs to move and call upon the resources of the cosmos. It is necessary that the healing music musician find and maintain and cultivate his/her own pulse, exploring rhythm through the body as well as the music. The feel breathes life into the song and opens the will center to receive and engage it. Put the feel into the rhythm of the song through your own dancing of it.The energy created aligns with the vibration of the composition and is carried with it and through it to the heart and feet of every listener.

Heartbeat
Aligning the downbeat of your peace to the relaxed pulse from 56 to 80 bpm will align the listener to the peaceful rhythm. The Native American beats are very useful for this alignment (they bring the listener to foundation and becoming grounded, which is often one of the biggest challenges for the one in need of healing). So, too are Latin rhythms, especially, Samba, Bossa nova, Rhumba, Tango, and Beguine.(These rhythms also get the spirit and the hips engaged, where inaction has contributed to energetic roadblocks and stuckness, real fertile ground for dis-ease) Any songs created within this tempo range will be powerful as healing pieces. In a live situation, attuning your music to the existing pulse of the patient, and then gradually adjusting through successive repetitions will bring the listener to the desired state of health.

Breath
Typical breath rate is 14-16 breaths/minute. This translates to breaths of 3.5 to 4.1 second duration. Best tempo is 60 bpm.  As breath is a three stage process, inhalation, exhalation, and pause, asymmetrical phrases are useful in your creations: 3+3+2 in 4/4 or 2+2+1 in 5/4 or groupings of 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13. You can also have phrases ascend during inhalation and descend during exhalation. Building these kinds of phrasings into your work will have a calming effect to allow your words to be received more deeply. Adding breath instruments, like flute, voice to your composition will be an additional tool to bring the listener to the desired state.

Brainwaves
Alterations of brain wave states occur often and quickly in the brain with changes of activity and thinking. Consciously manipulating the waves can lead to a sustained brainwave state, which is desirable for healing states of mind and accessing the sub-conscious. There are 4 brain states: Beta (13-30 cps, waking, active state); Alpha (8-13 cps, relaxed, light meditative state); Theta (4-7cps, deep meditation, hypnosis, creative, floating just before or after sleep); and Delta (0.5- 4 cps, deep sleep). You can create compositions that have an almost subliminal tone that carries one of these waves to create a desired state; for ex. One wave of 400 cps on the left and one of 405 cps on the right creates an oscillation of 5cps which is a Theta wave. It is imbedded in your composition. This works well for drones, mantras, or chants.

Remember that the rhythm brings the composition into the body. Consider your alternatives when you create your song. Experiment with a variety of rhythms and find those that serve the intention and the vibration. I often start with a rhythm as it so defines the structure and feel of my creation. I let it dictate the direction. That way I know the Earth is involved in pulling the listener back into their body, where the healing is substantiated and activated.
