Rhythm is a guiding force in nature. Being aware of the rhythms and cycles of the natural world is a powerful tool for the healing music musician, allowing compositions to align and entrain with the vibrations that effect all life the most. The period of the second, the minute, the hour, the day, the year…all have relevance when creating a healthy state for the listener. Dis-
The natural world is highly influential to the energetic life of humans. The lunar cycles, the solar cycles, the seasons, the tides, the plant cycles, the cycle of night and day, the weather patterns, the yearly cosmic cycles, and even the millennium cycles that we might experience once in a lifetime…all have relevance and influence the impact and healing capacity of the music when embraced. In other words, the more one is tuned into the flow, the more one is able to access higher wisdom to assist in the impact and effectiveness of the music and creations.
The conscious musician will pay attention to the cycles of the day. Ragas of India are written for specific times of the day, unique melodies and rhythms. You can create melodies based upon the moods of the day. You can create music that captures the vibration of the cycles of the moon. There are seasonal songs to be written in alignment with the natural mood that will trigger the energy bodies to release the old, get spirited, rest, or revive. Songs can be created to align with heartbeat, breath rate, digestion, sleep, activity…on and on. Tuning into one’s own inner rhythms is a powerful place to start. Intending to write something for a particular client will benefit from your willingness to tune into the person and their energy field. There is guidance to be had by asking…insights and inspirations in the energy field of the person, waiting to be tapped.
Animal cycles, plant cycles, the moods of the wind or other elements, the flow of the weather, cloud patterns, animal migrations, animal visitations and sightings, the song of birds, the melodies on the wind…there is an endless variety waiting for the one who hears their nuances and calls. Seek inspiration by opening to the greater flow of life: listen to the sound of footsteps and make that your tempo and beat; listen for the rhythms of life in the city; the sound of work; the patterns of children’s voices on the playground; the sound of the stream or the wind through the trees; the cadence of a conversation; the rhythm of emotion; the pulse of an assembly line; the blending of music from two sources…open up and receive. Ask for inspiration and then pay attention.
The infinite palette of possibility is always present. Events have a unique vibration. There are melodies and songs that line up with it…in the ethers. As it nears its beginning the conscious one can simply reach out and grab a feel, a chord pattern, a melody, a theme. The trick here is to then go with it, no questions. Trust is the doorway to expansion and greater inspiration. As we will learn later healing songs rarely require a rewrite…if you get out of the way. There is powerful guidance moving through you to do the work that must be done for your client.
Really open up to what I am saying. When you choose to create intentional music it is a special call to a unique form of inner listening, a beautiful expansive relationship with the spirit world, your higher self, your client’s guides, and the natural world. Please do not take it lightly but develop the trust and willingness to seriously flow. We will talk more about this in the lesson on composing healing songs.
