Throughout the course of the day the human brain fluctuates through a range of frequency patterns. Each one supports a different state of consciousness. Learning the basic five and then consciously working to maintain a frequency can be very useful for a variety of reasons as we shall see.

The waves in cycles per second (cps) from fastest to slowest are:

High Gamma Waves
64-128 cps Self awareness, unity, super conscious, deep insight, healing

Gamma Waves
32-64 cps. This is hyper brain activity, which is great for learning. Hyper alert, insight, information processiog

Beta Waves
16-32 cps. This is normal waking consciousness where we are engaged in activities and conversation

Alpha Waves
8-16 cps Very relaxed, deepening into meditation. Calm, daydreaming, visualization, memory, serotonin release

Theta Waves
4-8 cps drowsy and drifting down into sleep and dreams. Lucid Daydreaming, hallucinogenic state, intuition

Delta Waves
2-4 cps Transcendental Meditation, sleep, natural opiate release

Low Delta Waves
1-2 cps  Deep meditation, deep sleep, endorphin release, healing

Epsilon
0-1 cps Insight, self awareness, unity, universal mind, deep healing

Brainwave entrainment

Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

Is commonly used to induce many brainwave states; such as a trance, enhanced focus, relaxation, meditation or sleep induction. The brainwave entrainment effectively pushes the entire brain into a certain state.

Any stable frequency evokes a cortical response. The brain synchronizes its dominant brainwave frequency with that of the external stimulus.

The brain does not operate in just one single frequency; the full spectrum of brainwave frequencies are always running, all the time. The dominant frequency determines our mental state – and entrainment temporarily shifts our mental state by boosting one frequency to be louder than the others.

The principle has been utilized by many to help create a state that responds to specific intention/purpose. By creating the desired state we are able then to insert higher frequency thoughts/statements/affirmations into a more receptive subconscious self. This is what subliminal messages can do.

Purposefully working with brainwaves can also influence your energy. Music tempo has long been used to support relaxation  and energizing and all that lies between. The Mozart Effect of playing his songs that are 60 beats per minute tempo assists in creating a highly receptive state in the listener, great for learning, programming of new higher frequency, life affirming thoughts, and re-programming of old thoughts of limitation.

Types of Brainwave Entrainment

Binaural Beats
This consists of two tones, one panned to each ear. They are two different pitches (cps). The difference between them makes the brainwave frequency carrier that will entrain the brain waves. If one wave is 100 cps and the other is 104 cps then the difference of 4 cps is the frequency of the tone that will pan left and right at that speed. There is lots you can do with this: add statements just audible to be heard in the occurring receptive state; make the statements subliminal  so that the sub-conscious picks them up ( an interesting phenomena by the way); add environmental backgrounds or musical backgrounds; reverse the statements, slow them down, speed them up…all of these have been shown to influence the impact of this intentional work.  As a side note, do be aware, if you purchase subliminal tracks, that you know the subliminal statements that are used…as it is easy to steer you in another direction.

Typically, one listens on stereo headphones or speakers ( to allow the sound to also penetrate and massage the physical body) to binaural beats to allow the panning to be effective.

Remember, the binaural beats can be used to create a deeply meditative receptive state; they can be used to help you go to sleep or to reach the dream state; they can be used to create receptivity to learning information; they can support you in re-energizing; can be used to support guided visualization programs used by athletes, performers, or anyone who wants to create a new habit, etc. ; they can be used for specific spiritual work.

I will provide samples in the audio player below to give you a sense of what can be done.

And, do know that I can create for you through the vibrational attunement process a personalized CD/MP3 with your statements of affirmation to assist on a deep level to assist bringing your intentions into form.

Monaural Beats

These are binaural beats played in mono instead of stereo. You will hear the oscillations as a rising and falling in volume in the intended pulse frequency. Useful if you do not have access to stereo playback. Can be used on a smart phone or pad device which have mono speakers.

Isochronic Tones

This involves the repeating pulse of sound at a specific amount of beats per second. The gaps between the tones are exactly the same as the tone duration. The pulsing provides the entrainment. Sine wave tones work the best ( usually available in tone generating programs for computer and smart device.

It takes up to 20 minutes for any brainwave entrainment to take full effect. So, because your brain is in a beta or alpha state most of the time, it makes sense to start your program around there and then slowly sweep the pitch to the frequency that you want to end up in. This gives your brainwaves time to adjust to the new frequencies. With binaural beats a very interesting program is to start in beta or alpha, then to sweep down to theta and hold the frequency there for some meditation time. From there you could go deeper down to delta for even deeper meditation, maybe even mix in some soft alpha waves or even some bird sounds at this point to stop you from falling asleep.

As you slowly lower your brainwave frequencies you go from a normal awake state to deeper levels of your mind. But then, as you go to the deepest levels where your brainwaves almost stop altogether, you can find yourself outside your body and fully "awake". Now you are in a state more similar to high gamma than the deep dreamless sleep associated with epsilon, only you are in another dimension.

Drumming

Shamanic drumming at a consistent rate of 134 beats per minute (pretty fast) will put you into a shamanic trance state. If you are versed/trained in shamanic practice it can be a place where you can make some significant and adventurous impacts on your current state of a clean and clear, high vibrational You.

Overtone Chanting

Toning and chanting specific frequencies and phonemes can have a very positive effect on your energetic body system and your states of mind. Vocal sounding can be used to impact your pineal and pituitary glands to activate your higher dimensional tools as desired. One very useful technique is to use overtone chanting. This involves using a particular phoneme and voicing it while manipulating slowly the shape of your mouth and placement of your tongue Here is a list of phonemes you can play with to just explore and see how they impact you. Reminder to adjust the pitch as you make the phonemes to influence where they impact your physical self. Typically, the higher the pitch the higher up the physical body the pitch touches. Know also that low tones add additional harmonics and can thus impact places that regular pitch adjustments cannot access. Finally, know that the more nasal a tone the more you can access the higher harmonics using the cranial resonance chamber.

Breath and brain state

The neural pathways in the brain that allow us to consciously change our breathing patterns are quite extensive, and fortunately the knowledge of where and how they work is not needed to change brain states.

Breathing patterns are intimately entwined with our emotional states. Anger, for instance, can produce a volatile and deep form of breathing, while in depression, people usually take in shallow breaths. Every emotion has its corresponding breathing pattern unique to that individual. And it is physiologically difficult to experience a given emotional state while breathing the pattern of another emotion. For instance, try to be depressed and breathe the deep and rapid breathing pattern characteristic of anger. You will find that it cannot be done. In addition to sustaining life, breathing patterns can open the doors to altered states of awareness. Such states can then be very useful for a number of practical reasons, which you will soon discover.
Kenyon MA, Tom. Brain States (p. 85). World Tree Press. Kindle Edition.

Level One Breathing

This form of breathing takes you into an open and receptive brain state.

1.  Inhale to a count of eight. (Each count equals about one second. Count one thousand, two thousand, three thousand, etc.)
2.  Hold (the in breath) to a count of eight.
3.  Exhale to a count of eight.
4.  Hold (the out breath) to a count of eight. Repeat the sequence seven more times for a total of eight. Get a feel for your body; notice how relaxed it is. Notice your orientation in space. Does your body seem to be “floaty?”

Level Two Breathing

This form of breathing takes you into a deeper and more receptive state than Level One Breathing.
1.  Inhale to a count of twelve. (Each count equals about one second. Count one thousand, two thousand, three thousand, etc.)
2.  Hold (the in breath) to a count of twelve.
3. Exhale to a count of twelve.
4.  Hold (the out breath) to a count of twelve. Repeat the sequence eleven more times for a total of twelve.

Note: Many people are unable to complete this protocol, since it profoundly alters awareness. Just do as much of the sequence as is comfortable. With more practice, you will be able to do more.

Noise Removal Breathing

This protocol can be used to dramatically decrease internal “noise” thereby improving mental function. Later you will discover how to use this breathing technique in connection with other protocols to increase both creativity and performance.

The Technique
1.  Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
2.  Imagine and feel that your body is a hollow tube and that as you inhale, the breath is drawn up through your feet and into your legs; up into your pelvis and stomach; up into your chest and back; and up into your should and head. 3.  Imagine and feel your breath “‘swishing” through this hollow tube of our body and carrying away any tension, stress, or uncomfortable feelings.
4.  When you get to the top of the inhale, just relax and exhale through normal means. Let each exhale be more relaxed than the one before it.
5.  Let your breathing be long, slow and comfortable. Breathe in this way for two to five minutes — longer if you wish.

How do you feel? Is your body relaxed? What is your body’s spatial orientation? Do you feel “floaty?” Floaty, relaxed feelings are a signature of lowered brain wave activity, and a goal of these techniques.

Calm Breathing Protocol

1.  Sit comfortably or lie down.
2.  Breathe in long, slow comfortable inhales.
3.  Make each exhale about the same length as the inhale.
4.  Make each exhale more relaxed than the one before it.

Breathe in this way for two to five minutes to get the feel of how this method relaxes you.
