Amber Uses and Purposes
Amber is a protective stone for children and may be worn as a necklace, bracelet, sewn into an infant’s garment or placed in their environment to ward off negative energies and shield them from harm. It is also prized for energetically reducing teething pain, though it should never be placed in the mouth. It is highly beneficial when treating infants or children for the mother to wear the Amber first. [Megemont, 23][Fernie, 323][Eason, 82][Hall, 52]
Wear or carry Amber when recovering from an illness or injury to increase vitality and draw on one’s own essential strength and desire for wellness. Its vibration of life force brings warmth to the inner being and imparts more of this energy into the system. Amber may also be used to achieve longevity, and is a marvelous gem for the elderly. [Simmons, 24]
As a love crystal, golden-orange Amber is a symbol of beauty and tenderness, a good-luck talisman for increasing natural radiance and attracting lasting love. It may be used to call in a twin soul, or for protection against negative outside influences and interference. It is a wonderful gem for assuring promises and has been used in the renewal of marriage vows. [Eason, 43, 82][Lecouteux, 312][Melody, 107]
Believed to “electrify” desire, Amber is credited with helping to cure impotence and frigidity, and to aid female fertility and male potency. [Megemont, 23][Eason, 82]
Amber is an exceptional rubbing stone for discharging negative moods, relieving anxiety, or deflecting energy from others. It warms the more it is touched and generates a positive, uplifting current of energy. Carry in the pocket, wear in jewelry, or use in rosary or prayer beads. [Mella 72][Lembo, 61][Megemont, 22-23]
Use Amber to purify any environment before use, or to remove negative energy by placing pieces of Amber around the space, spray as an elixir, or burn as incense. It also provides an effective screen after the area has been cleansed. For healers who work with removing entities from one’s energy field, Amber can be a valuable ally for sealing the aura after extraction and clearing any lingering negative patterns. Amber assists those who are new to exploring their psychic sensitivity by providing a Light barrier against negative forces until they are able to control their intuitive skills. [Melody, 108][Ahsian, 25][101 Hall, 26]
Amber Emotional Healing Energy
Amber heals and supports the emotional body by drawing off the negative energies that steal one’s optimism and drive for life, and replaces them with an empowering frequency conducive to positive change. It is ideal for those battling suicidal tendencies, addictions, or who struggle with depression, anxiety or seasonal affective disorder to see light at the end of the tunnel. Amber helps remove the obstacles we place in our own way, as well as deflecting the negative energies of others. It lends the courage to set boundaries with friends, colleagues or family, and to recognize it is safe to be powerful in loving ways. [Lembo, 60-61][Eason, 82][Raphaell, 136-137]
Bringing balance and stability to one’s life, Amber encourages patience and flexibility. Its warm, bright energy promotes cheerfulness and trust, and strengthens the belief in oneself. Amber stimulates the intellect, improves short-term memory, and enhances the understanding of messages from one’s past to assist in decision-making and moving forward in life. It is a great tool for transmuting dreams into reality. [Melody, 107][Gienger, 12][Lembo, 61][Hall, 52][101 Hall, 26]
Amber Chakra Healing and Balancing Energy
The gold and orange shades of Amber stimulate the Navel or Sacral Chakra, located below the naval and above the pubic bone at the front of the pelvis. It controls the flow of energy and is the center of gravity of the body. It is the center of the Life Force of the body, and controls the flow of information from the body to the mind and from the mind to the body. Gut feelings, intuition, and other "non-linear" communication comes from this chakra. When it is out of balance the symptoms manifest themselves as confusion, over dependency on others, repression of feelings, inability to feel joy, fear of sensuality or sex, and frustration. Gold or orange crystals are used to unblock the energy flow and restore one’s sense of balance, understanding and appreciation of life. When the Sacral Chakra is in balance one has grace, feels pleasure in life, and experiences the flexibility to "go with the flow" and do so in good spirit.
The yellow hues within Amber activate the Solar Plexus Chakra, the energy distribution center and the chakra of relationships. This chakra is located between the ribcage and navel, and controls the immune and digestive systems. When physically balanced, it provides the strength to fight infections, frees one of allergic reactions, and utilizes nutrients ingested. If the Solar Plexus is spiritually imbalanced, one may feel fear - of the disappointment or displeasure of others, or to subordinating one’s life and pleasures to the will of others. Yellow crystals spiritually balance the Solar Plexus, freeing one to interpret the world through one’s own thoughts and emotions and not live in fear of violating the dictums of others.
Amber Spiritual Energy
Amber is a powerful protector, aligning one’s everyday self to higher spiritual realms. It is a valuable tool for tapping into ancient wisdom, and for recalling past lives, whether a regression from this life or from a past life, in order to break negative patterns or to gain a better understanding of how past experiences can better assist one now. [Hall, 52][Lembo, 60-61][Eason, 82]
Amber is fossilized with its Life Force energies intact, and is an excellent source of Light energy for the physical body and a tangible support for energetic healing. It can assist one in connecting with interdimensional and intergalactic Light beings, including Nature devas and faeries, and those who are on Earth to help mankind through the coming shift. [Ahsian, 24-25]
Amber Color Energy
Amber associates with the color energies of Gold. Gold color rays bring success, enthusiasm, happiness, and power. It is traditionally the color of kings, riches, and the sun. Gold touches a deep part of our minds, conjuring up images of mystical places and adventure. Light Gold crystals provide us with the simple pleasures of life - cheerfulness and contentment, while Dark Gold crystals have a deeper, more pronounced sense of devotion and commitment, providing us with a mature enthusiasm and ability to share a lifelong commitment of care and love.
Meditation with Amber
Amber is used in meditation when the desire is to connect to the earth wisdom of an earlier age. Its ancient energy is released as it is touched or held in the hand during a session. It can be used to purify an area for meditation, or to clear the mind, body and spirit in readiness for expanding the consciousness. Amber is a superb tool for past-life exploration, clearing family patterns, or cleansing karmic debris from one’s energy field. It is a powerful protector in shamanic journeys and for its ability to facilitate travel to the lower world. Focusing on the fossil in bright sunlight or by candlelight heightens
Amber Talismans and Amulets
Amber’s importance as a talisman is not based on crystalline structure, as it is amorphous, nor on its chemical composition, as it is not a mineral. Rather it is the organic essence of life and the energy of light within its structure that has resonated with the human spirit since the earliest man.
Because of its preservation of life, Amber was revered as a repository of souls, and amulets of Amber were used in funeral rites for mourning the dead and placed in burial tombs with other treasures to protect the soul during its journey to the afterlife. [museumcatalogues.getty.edu][101 Hall, 26]
Amber is a talisman of the lonely and nostalgic, often referenced in myths and legends of the sea as tears of gods or goddesses who mourned the death of a loved one, especially one of a young life. It is considered to provide great strength to widows or those who await a loved one, and to sustain one through the grieving process. [Megemont, 22][Lembo, 61][Lecouteux, 276]
Amber is a good-luck talisman, believed to be pieces of the Sun that fell off into the sea. It has long been used to bring luck to warriors, protect infants and children, and to increase radiance and attract lasting love. [Eason, 82][Melody, 107][Megemont, 23][Fernie, 323]
Amber in Ancient Lore and Legend
Amber was one of the first substances used by man for decoration, utilized as far back as the Stone Age for jewelry, amulets and funerary offerings. Pieces of rough Amber marked with circular depressions were found in Prussia, Schleswig-Holstein, and Denmark in deposits of the Stone Age, made both by natural causes and man-made borings, possibly to replicate the natural depressions. Dr. Hoernes, an Austrian geologist, theorized these hollows were likely considered to be the resting place of the spirit or spirits believed to animate the stone, and were conceivably the earliest talismans or amulets. [Kunz, 55][Hall En, 79]
Besides citing the legendary tales of how Amber came to be, Aristotle, and later Pliny and Tacitus, attested to Amber’s true origin as earth-born, a resin formed from the tree of an ancient pine genus. Because insects and plant matter were suspended, timeless within its form, they deemed Amber to be an apt metaphor for entombment and to represent the ultimate function of the funeral rite: to honor the deceased with precious gifts and make permanent the memory of their lives. Large amounts of Amber were found in graves across the ancient world; some discovered in Mycenaean graves date back to 8000 BCE. [Kunz, 55][museumcatalogues.getty.edu][Hall En, 79][en.wikipedia.org]
In antiquity, Amber was a symbol of loneliness and nostalgia, as well as grief, and its creation was often referenced in lore as tears.
The origins of Baltic Amber are associated with an ancient Lithuanian legend of Jūratė, queen of the sea, who lived in a palace constructed of Amber at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. She fell madly in love with a fisherman named Kastytis and brought him back to live with her in her Amber palace. When her father, thunder god Perkūnas, the most powerful of the Lithuanian gods, found she had pledged her love to a mere mortal, he flew into a rage and sent lightning bolts to kill Kastytis and destroy the Amber palace. He then chained Jūratė within the ruins for all eternity. The legend claims that even today, when storms rage in the Baltic Sea, small fragments of the underwater palace can be found washed up on shore, and one can still hear the grieving goddess cry for her lost love. [en.wikipedia.org][www.amberartisans.com][www.lithaz.org]
A more classic tale for Amber comes from its name, the Latin electrum and ancient Greek elektron, which originated from the term elektor, meaning “beaming Sun.” According to Ovid in Greek mythology, when Phaëton, son of Helios (the Sun) was killed by lightning, his sisters wept so grievously they were changed into poplar trees. Their tears, shed perpetually into the Eridanus River, thought to be the modern river Po, congealed into electrum, droplets of Amber. [en.wikipedia.org][Lecouteux, 138, 312][Fernie, 325][Kunz, 55-56][Simmons, 23-24]
In a lost tragedy of Sophocles, the origin of Amber was fabled to be tears shed by obscure sea birds from a “land beyond India” over the death of the Greek hero, Meleager. In a Celtic myth, Apollo, banished from Olympus, shed “tears of Amber,” and a Christian legend claims Amber was born from the tears of pine trees during the Flood. [Kunz, 56][Lecouteux, 312][Fernie, 263][Megemont, 22]
In Scandinavia, Amber is believed to be the tears of Freyja, the Viking Goddess of Love and Beauty. Women there used spindles with whorls made of Amber to spin protection into garments for their warrior husbands or sons. [Eason, 82]
Many in the ancient world believed Amber was the “juice” or “unctuous sweat” of the heated earth, or honey from the Ajan Mountains that was brought forth by the heat of the sun. Others saw it as brilliant droplets of the setting sun as it sank beneath the waves, where it was congealed by the sea then cast upon the shore. [Fernie, 263][Kunz, 56][101 Hall, 26][Eason, 82][www.gemsociety.org]
Because of its natural warmth, Amber was regarded as a living being, and in the Far East it was believed the souls of tigers metamorphosed into Amber at their death and brought courage to their wearers. [Hall En, 79][Eason, 82]
Amber was also known as lyncurium or ligure stone, reputed in myth to be the solidified product of lynx urine and a kind of earth the animal used immediately to cover its urine as he was jealous of the uses men got from it. Stones made of a male lynx produced a deep hue, while those of a female were pale. Ingested as a drink, it removed stones from the bladder, and drunk in wine or worn as an amulet cured jaundice and diarrhea, quenched thirst, and possessed hemostatic properties. It was also believed lyncurium came from animals called langures or langes which dwelt by the banks of the Po River. These stones were reputed to protect all houses from ill fortune, heal stomach problems, and were cited as being the anaphrodisiac of prostitutes. [Lecouteux, 207-208][Fernie, 323][Kunz, 56]
Purity and holiness were thought to be evoked by Amber. Ogmios, the Celtic deity of eloquence, is said to have led his devoted followers around with chains of gold and Amber representing the spiritual connection that frees people, as opposed to material chains that imprison them. Faces of the saints and wise men were often described as resembling this color, while in Europe during the Middle Ages, rosary beads made from this substance were so popular the available supplies were exhausted. [Simmons, 23][Megemont, 22][en.wikipedia.org]
To the Native Americans, Amber is a sacred stone, said to represent the east wind of grandfather Sun. Both Amber and copal were used in the fire ceremonies of ancient tribal leaders from the earliest pre-Columbian Mesoamerican civilizations, and is still in use by a number of indigenous peoples of Mexico and Central America today as an incense, during sweat lodge ceremonies and Sacred Mushroom ceremonies. [Melody, 108][fredalightfoot.blogspot.com][en.wikipedia.org]
Because of its nature of housing once living things, classical worshippers of the Mother Goddess believed Amber contained the essence of life itself, the animating principle, or Akasha. [www.gemsociety.org][Fernie, 323]
Another Latin name for Amber was succinum, (from sucus “juice”) thought to have derived from an extinct species of pine (Pinites succinifer). It emitted a pine-like smell when rubbed, and burned with the odor and appearance of torch-pine wood. Succinum ignited easily and pieces were burned for its soothing aroma and disinfectant abilities, as it was believed to filter germs. Its smoke was highly esteemed for providing a sterile and conducive environment for childbirth, and in medieval times was utilized as an incense to drive away evil spirits and enchantments, and to repel snakes and mosquitos. As succinum was soft and easily carved, it was popular in Eastern cultures for making mouthpieces for pipes. It was customary in antiquity to have the pipe lighted by a servant and Amber was considered incapable of transmitting infection. Oil of Amber, as well as succinic acid, was made from distilling the resin, and the residue was used to produce varnish. [Fernie, 322-325][Mella, 72][Melody, 108][101 Hall, 26][Megemont, 23]
Amber was considered to be a protective amulet for children, and Pliny records necklaces were made of these nuggets and hung about the neck of infants to keep them from the evil powers of witchcraft and sorcery. It was also thought to help with teething pain. [Fernie, 323][Megemont, 23][Lecouteux, 312]
The medicinal virtues of Amber were highly prized in the ancient world. Worn on the body, especially around the neck, it was reported to protect health as well as to relieve the symptoms of fever and infections, sore throat, headache, toothache, and respiratory discomfort. Ground into fine powder and mixed with water or wine, it was prescribed for stomach distress and epilepsy. Mixed with honey and rose oil, Amber was believed to cure deafness and other afflictions of the ear, and crushed and mixed with Attic honey would ward off dimness of sight. Oil of Amber was given in small doses to aid in cases of hysteria, and was used externally as a natural antibiotic for healing wounds and as a salve for rheumatism and various physical pains and injuries. It was also rubbed onto the chest and back for the relief of bronchial problems and was highly favored for treating whooping cough. The handles of ancient Jewish and Arabic circumcision and surgical knives were often carved from Amber as it was thought to staunch bleeding. Chakra Healing and Balancing Energy
Labradorite radiates a predominant blue crystal energy that stimulates the Throat Chakra, the voice of the body. It is, in essence, a pressure valve that allows the energy from the other chakras to be expressed. If it is blocked, or out of balance, it can affect the health of the other chakras. When the throat chakra is in balance and open, it allows for the expression of what we think and what we feel. We can communicate our ideas, beliefs, and emotions, bringing our personal truth out into the world. We have an easy flow of energy within the body and spirit. The energy that springs upward from the lower chakras can continue its path enabling free expression and natural release. Darker shades of blue encourage the power of truth, while lighter shades carry the power of flexibility, relaxation, and balance. Labradorite, with its iridescent flashes of color, can be very beneficial in uniting all of the chakras.
Golden Labradorite assists in opening the lower chakras during ritual or magical practices, while Spectrolite works with one's "Rainbow Body" to enhance awareness of the higher realms. [Simmons, 226]
Spiritual Energy
Labradorite's energy allows one to penetrate the veils of the Void, where all knowledge and possibility are held. It is the place of potential and the source of creation, and for shamans, magicians, and Light workers, Labradorite acts as a protective ally in recalling experiences from other realms, other times and other lives. It assists in moving between the worlds, and in bringing to this realm the creations which are for the highest good of all beings. [Ahsian, 226]
Labradorite is a powerful protector of the aura, preventing energy leakage, and others from tapping into and draining your personal energy. It ensures all elemental forces are empowered and proportional within one's system. [Ahsian, 226] It is also a useful tool in radionic analysis and treatment to help pinpoint problem areas. [Melody, 368][Hall, 170]
Referred to as the "temple of the stars," Labradorite is thought to bring the light of other planetary beings to the soul of the user. Its labradorescence is believed to be of extra-terrestrial origins, and enclosed in the mineral to bring the evolved energies from other worlds to the Earth plane. [Melody, 367]
Color Energy
Labradorite shimmers in blues, the colors of ice and the slowly lightening winter sky as the deep violets depart and the sun climbs higher each day. As winter gives way to spring, and new life is ready to burst forth, blue marks the beginning of life and emotion. Blue crystals bring trust, faith, patience, and respect, lending the focus we need to become more sincere, act more responsibly, and become more trustworthy.
Light blue crystals help us accept the life we have, develop patience, reconcile differences, or seek forgiveness. They're excellent for recovery efforts from addictions or destructive patterns, aid in curbing tempers, and help us become more dependable and cheerful. Light blue crystals also assist in dealing with grief, letting go of the past, and curing guilt. Darker blue talismans enhance the respect and compassion we have within ourselves. They teach us humanity, discretion, and honor, and encourage us to act more charitably and focus our efforts on service to others.
Meditation with Labradorite
Meditating with Labradorite allows one to recognize humanity as "being of light," transcending limitations of the past and thoughts of the future, and embracing the infinite possibilities of the moment. It allows one to "be" and rest assured the light is always there, surrounding and pure. [Melody, 368]

Labradorite which is blue in color is one of the natural birthstones of those born as the world awaits the vernal equinox and spring (February 19 - March 19). This is a time when new life is about to burst forth, a time of faith and trust. Blue crystals bring you patience and respect.
Stone of Aurora Borealis
Labradorite is not associated with any zodiac sign, though Cancer is drawn to its many colors and the stimulation of its electromagnetic energy on the brain's thinking. [Megemont, 109]. Legends tell us it is the stone of the Northern Lights, and it seems to be just that as is shimmers eternally.
Labradorite Amulets and Talismans
As an amulet of protection, Labradorite is a powerful Barrier Filter. Barrier crystals have incredible abilities to help us focus and amplify our efforts to keep undesirable elements out of our lives. Its crystalline structure gives it strength in all directions, allowing it to provide barriers to attack from all directions simultaneously.
Crystals with the earth power of a Filter, absorb positive energy flow but work to keep negative energy away from us. They help us view the world in a "glass half full" outlook, to see the best in others, the beauty in life, and the good in humanity. They keep us focused on the positive in situations and to not be overwhelmed by the negative. In our technological world, Filters also work to keep harmful electromagnetic transmissions from sapping our energy and health.
Labradorite Feng Shui
Labradorite utilizes Water energy, the energy of stillness, quiet strength, and purification. It embodies potentialities unrealized. It is yielding, formless, yet powerful. The Water element brings power of regeneration and rebirth. It is the energy of the circle of life. Use blue crystals to enhance any space that you use for repose, calm reflection, or prayer. Water energy is traditionally associated with the North area of a home or room. It is associated with the Career and Life Path area, its flowing energy assuring a balance of energy as your life unfolds and flows.
Labradorite in Ancient Lore and Legend
In ancient lore, Labradorite was considered to be a talismanic gem of winter, and in Oriental culture was known as a "phenomenal gem" to be worn on Saturdays. Phenomenal gems exhibited a moving line, star, or changes on the surface as the light varied, and was considered to bring good fortune to the wearer. [Kunz, 326, 333-334]
Native Inuit tribes of North America claim the first Labradorite fell from the Aurora Borealis from the fire of their ancestors. Another legend describes a brave Inuit warrior who struck Labradorite with his spear and created the Northern Lights. [Eason, 163]

Introduction to the Meaning and Uses of Malachite
Malachite, with its beautiful, rich green color, leaves no doubt of its importance as a jewel. Its opaque strength and power demands respect, mesmerizing the viewer. Yet the movement, flow and energy in its lines, circles and designs soothe and welcome. It is spiritually inviting.
Malachite personifies the deep healing green of nature and represents the innate beauty of flowers, trees, roots and plants. It manifests a deep Devic green which rules the material plane. [Raphaell, 144] It is a Stone of Transformation, assisting one in changing situations and providing for spiritual growth. [Melody, 395] It heals on physical and emotional levels, drawing out impurities and stimulating the Life Force throughout the aura and body. [Ahsian, 248]
The name Malachite may come from the Greek word malakee, or malache, signifying the resemblance of Mallow leaves, or from the Greek word malakos, meaning soft. [Fernie, 167][Simmons, 247] Being a carbonate of copper, Malachite is sometimes intergrown with Azurite, forming Malachite-Azurite, or with Chrysocolla, forming Malachite-Chrysocolla. [Simmons, 247]
Well known to ancient Egyptians, Malachite mines were in use between the Suez and Sinai as early as 4000 B.C. [Kunz, 97] It was also popular with the ancient Greeks and Romans, for jewelry, ornaments, and in powdered form, for eye shadow. In the Middle Ages, Malachite was believed to protect against the "Evil Eye" and to cure various stomach ailments. Russian czars used Malachite for ornaments and paneling for their castles, and intricate inlay work. [Simmons, 247]
Inherent in Malachite is lighter green eye-shaped forms or bands on its surface. These "eye stones," believed to enhance great visionary powers, were used to ward off negative happenings. They were stones of security and protection for children, and their most remarkable association today is the ability to warn of impending danger by breaking into pieces. [Mella, 90]
Uses and Purposes - Overview
Malachite is a protection stone, absorbing negative energies and pollutants from the atmosphere and from the body. It guards against radiation of all kinds, clears electromagnetic pollution and heals earth energies. [Hall, 183] Keep near microwaves in the kitchen and televisions in living areas. In the workplace Malachite protects against noise, over-bright fluorescent lighting, and harmful rays from technological equipment, negative phone calls and emails. [Eason, 283
As a stone of travel, Malachite protects and overcomes fears of flying if you empower the crystal before a trip by holding it and envisioning yourself in the wings of the Archangel, Raphael. It helps with jet lag, encourages smooth business travel, and protects in travel on congested highways. [Eason, 42, 283]
Malachite is known for being a stone of support for airplane and airline workers as a protection against accidents, miners for protection from unexplained accidents, and for secretaries to stimulate clear thinking. [Mella, 129,132-133]
Malachite Healing Therapies - Overview
Malachite must be handled with caution!
Malachite is toxic and should be used only in its polished form. Avoid breathing its dust. [Hall, 185]
Physical Healing Energy
Malachite is an effective remedy for female problems, especially regulating the menstrual cycle and cramps, and for easing labor. [Megemont, 119] It has been called the Midwife Stone. It resonates with the female sexual organs, and treats sexual dis-ease, especially when caused by traumatic past experiences. [Hall, 184]
Malachite relieves cold sweats, malaria, trembling and Parkinson's disease, and helps with asthma, intestinal problems and rheumatic pain. It is a diuretic stone and can help cure kidney and gallstones. It fights osteoarthritis, most notably in the spine, and strengthens memory, especially for those with short-term memory loss who forget the names of people right after hearing them. [Megemont, 119-120]
Known to lower blood pressure, Malachite also treats epilepsy, travel sickness and vertigo. It helps in the healing of fractures, swollen joints, growths, tumors, torn muscles and broken bones. It enhances the immune system and stimulates the liver to release toxins. [Hall, 184-185][Eason, 283]
We must again warn you: use only polished Malachite. Do not use any Malachite elixir. Do not place any malachite in your mouth. If you use this stone, use common sense. Place it on the body with a small cloth under it. It's healing powers will not be diminished.
Emotional Healing Energy
As a stone of transformation, Malachite encourages change and emotional risk-taking. It shows what is blocking your spiritual growth, draws out deep feelings and psychosomatic causes, then allows you to break unwanted ties and outworn patterns. It encourages the expression of feelings, alleviating shyness and teaching the responsibility for one's own thoughts and actions. It supports friendships and empathy for other people. [Hall, 183-4]
Malachite helps battle depression and anxiety, gives resistance to emotional blackmail and heals emotional abuse, especially when suffered in childhood. It also encourages healthy relationships based on love and not need. [Eason, 283] Malachite assists in overcoming fear of confrontation, or fear of being seen or noticed, and helps one find the strength within to assume their rightful place in the Universe. [Ahsian, 248]
Chakra Healing and Balancing Energy
With its pure energy rays of green, Malachite is dedicated to the Heart Chakra. Located near the center of the breastbone, it regulates our interaction with the external world and controls what we embrace and what we resist. It gives us the balancing ability to be ourselves within the environment. When the heart chakra is out of balance you may feel either controlling or controlled in a relationship, and become critical of the little foibles of others. You may well find yourself having inappropriately strong emotional responses to everyday external stimuli.
Green crystal energy is used to resolve blockages and to re-balance the heart chakra, helping us understand our own needs and emotions clearly. We can deal with the ebbs and flows of emotional relationships, understand their cyclic nature, and accept the changes.
Malachite is helpful to clear and activate other chakras. Placed on the Third Eye, it activates visualization and psychic vision. Placed on the solar plexus, it facilitates deep emotional healing, releasing negative experiences and old traumas. [Hall, 183]
Spiritual Energy
Malachite has the ability to serve different purposes for different people. For those highly evolved and dedicated to humanitarian purposes, it assists in grounding higher energies onto the planet for those purposes. For those in a purification process, Malachite acts as a purger and a mirror to the subconscious, reflecting into the conscious mind that which needs to be cleansed.
This stone is dense and nontransparent, absorbing energy instead of emitting it. Place Malachite stones over areas that are diseased or painful, to draw out the negative energy and surface the causes for it. Because of the absorbing properties, it is important to cleanse the stones after such use. [Raphaell, 144]
Malachite can be a powerful ally for those waiting for their reality to change. It reminds us we have come here to co-create with the Universe, and helps in identifying the steps necessary to bring dreams, visions and wishes into physical reality. [Ahsian, 248]
Malachite stimulates dreams and brings memories vividly to life. [Hall, 184] It is also an excellent stone for the re-birthing process, providing easy disposal of opposing encounters. [Melody, 395]
Color Energy
Malachite, with its pure Green Ray of Influence, is a "growth crystal" - a powerful conduit of the earth's Life Force of birth, development, and creation, and of the power of nature's constant renewal. It is a potent aid in nurturing, whether of fledgling family relationships or a new business venture.
Green talismans are perfect for keeping a venture on course, a project on schedule, and life on track. Lighter Malachite crystals promote spiritual growth and renewed commitment to a higher purpose. Those of a darker hue are talismans of physical growth and strength, and safety in travel.
Meditation with Malachite
Malachite reveals the truth about oneself and brings to the surface that which is unknown or unseen to the conscious mind. When used, worn or meditated upon, it will draw out and reflect whatever is impeding spiritual growth, and is best used in conjunction with meditation to help balance and release the debris that is revealed. [Raphaell, 145]
To break negative patterns of behavior, speak your fears and sorrows aloud daily as you hold the crystal, then, leave it in a sheltered place outdoors overnight to carry away the fears. [Eason, 283]
Some practitioners have used Malachite in meditations to get in touch with the Earth Mother. Holding one and sitting quietly on the ground for a few minutes helps many people to be more aware of the earth as a living organism upon whom we are totally dependent.
Divination
Malachite can be used for scrying. Journeying through its convoluted patterns releases the mind, assisting in receiving insights from the subconscious or messages from the future. [Hall, 183]
Malachite and the Angelic Realm
If your birthday falls in any of the following periods, a Malachite can be a valuable conduit to your Guardian Angel. The table also provides the name of the Guardian Angel of those born in the time period.
Malachite Amulets and Talismans
Malachite was considered to be a talisman for children. If a piece of the stone were attached to an infant's cradle, all evil spirits were held aloof and the child slept soundly and peacefully. In some parts of Germany, Malachite shared with Turquoise the repute of protecting the wearer from danger in falling, and also gave warning of approaching disaster by breaking into pieces. [Kunz, 97]
At one time, the appropriate design to be engraved upon a Malachite was the image of the sun. Such a gem would become a powerful talisman and protected the wearer from enchantments, evil spirits, and from the attacks of venomous creatures. [Kunz, 97] Because of Malachite's peculiar markings, some of which suggest the form of an eye, Malachite was worn in parts of Italy as an amulet to protect the wearer from the spell of the Evil Eye. Such stones were called "peacock-stones," from their resemblance in color and markings to the peacock's tail. The form of these Malachite amulets is usually triangular and mounted in silver. [Kunz, 137]
Malachite is a Guardian Builder Crystal. The Guardian talismans do not reveal their inner strength. These stones rarely, if ever, form transparent crystals. Rather, they hide their strength behind an opaque mask, obscuring the power they possess. In the physical world they are fantastic amulets for protecting your loved ones, your possessions, and your physical security.
Combined with the Earth Power of a Builder, these crystals are perfect aids in building up wealth, or improving our lot in life both materially and spiritually. They help in development efforts, in learning new skills and knowledge, and in building new relationships.
Feng Shui
Malachite utilizes Wood energy, the energy of growth, expansion, new beginnings, nourishment and health. It enhances vitality, brings abundance, and keeps us growing physically. Use green crystals to enhance any space used for eating, in the room of a small child, or in a place of your home where you are beginning a new project. Wood energy is traditionally associated with the East and Southeast areas of a home or room. It is associated with the Family and Health area, and the Prosperity and Abundance area.
Ancient Lore and Legend
Malachite is one of the oldest known stones, used for thousands of years for its healing and transforming properties. In ancient Egypt, Malachite was used by the upper classes as one of their main power stones, serving as a grounding force to help them channel higher energies onto the planet.
The pharaohs often lined the inside of their headdresses with Malachite, believing it helped them rule wisely. [Raphaell, 143] It was also pulverized into a fine powder and used as a brilliant eye shadow. This green adornment was not only cosmetic, it was reported to stimulate clear vision and insight. [Mella, 90]
In Switzerland and in several villages of Savoie in the French Alps, Malachite crosses are thought to bring good luck to pregnant women, and mothers of large families are proud to show their collections of Malachite crosses. Collectors have crosses that date back to the fifteenth century. [Megemont, 119] It was believed that a piece of the stone attached to an infant's cradle, would keep away all evil spirits and the child would sleep soundly and peacefully. [Kunz, 97] The gemstone was often worn by children as a talisman, protecting them from bad dreams while giving them a greater sense of emotional security. [Mella, 90]
Malachite is one the stones dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi. The association is so great, that legend claims Malachite, held in the hand or worn as a jewel, will enable one to understand the language of the animals, and if one regularly drinks from a cup made of Malachite, it is possible to communicate with them. [Megemont, 119]
